Security Deposit

A security deposit is an amount a guest is charged, held, or pre-authorized against the possibility of damage during their stay. Depending on the platform, it may be collected upfront, held as an authorization, or claimed only if an issue is reported after checkout.

Deposits are only as useful as the evidence behind them. That makes the turnover inspection — and a clear record of the property's condition between guests — the real backstop, since a claim depends on showing what changed and when.
